Port Isaac is a traditional Cornish fishing village situated on the dramatic North Cornwall coast and is another must see place if you're visiting Cornwall.
The overall atmosphere of Port Isaac is like stepping back in time, the village itself is very pretty and there are plenty of shops and art galleries selling the work of local artists as well as souvenirs, grocery shopping and a post office. The streets of the town are very narrow and wind their way downhill to the small harbour, there are numerous small alleyways to explore and a small beach perfect for mooching around in rock pools.
Where to eat in Port Isaac
There are plenty of places to eat and drink, seafood is a speciality of Port Isaac. On the Quay is the Mote Bar and Restaurant which serves a feast of local Cornish produce or if you just want a snack try the Harbour cafe.
Parking at Port Isaac
Due to the narrow streets there is very limited parking in the town itself but there are two car parks. The main car park is at the top of the village and is probably your best option. Alternatively tide permitting there is a small parking area on the beach which is ideal for a short stay but remember that tides come in as well as go out so don't go off for a long walk along the coast path!
Nearby
Port Quin is a small inlet and cove that neighbours Port Isaac, once a small fishing village local legend has it that one night the village's entire population of men folk were wiped out in a storm that destroyed their fishing fleet. The women who were left eventually abandoned the village and it fell into ruin. Today there are just four cottages left which have been taken over by the National trust.
If the weather is good you can walk from Port Isaac to Port Quin along the coast path. Most of the coastline between the two is owned by the National Trust, be prepared for some of North Cornwall's finest scenery along the way.
