St Mawes castle with Pendennis in the background. - copyright EH KrocherFalmouth is situated on the south coast of Cornwall at the mouth of the River Fal. It's original Cornish name was Pen-y-cwm-cuic which soon became known as Pennycomequick.

Falmouth is most famous for it's busy harbour and most recently the National Maritime Museum an award wining structure built on the harbour which is open all year round and houses many maritime exhibitions and displays.

Falmouth town itself has many shops bars & boutiques and nearby attractions include Pendennis Castle which was built in 1539 by Henry VIII as a point of defence against invasion by the French. A short ferry ride from Falmouth is the picturesque town of St Mawes and the beautiful Roseland peninsular the ferry runs daily all year round
