Truro

Truro or Truru in the Cornish language is the administrative city of Cornwall. Truro's name is taken from the Cornish word for three rivers tri-veru. Once a busy inland port Truro lies in the heart of Cornwall county mingled between the rivers Kenwyn, Truro and Allen.

Truro is well known for it's Victorian cathedral which was begun in 1880 and finally completed in 1910. The cathedral was built on the site of Truro's original Parish church and some of it's medieval architecture still remains visible incorporated into the design of the present day cathedral in the south aisle. The cathedral has three spires the tallest of which reaches a height of 250 feet. Entry to the cathedral is free and there are guided tours available. For more information on opening times and services visit the cathedrals website at http://www.trurocathedral.org.uk On River Street stands the Royal Cornwall Museum founded in 1818 the museum houses many exhibitions of county's mining and geological history as well as natural history, arts and international displays. Admission to the museum is free and it is open Monday's to Saturday between 10 am & 4.45pm.
